Contrary to reports in the news or social media, Amnesty International has not started any form of investigation related to the trial of Ms Park Geun-hye. Our understanding of the trial proceedings thus far does not indicate any violation of Park Geun-hye’s right to fair trial, or other human rights violations.
We will continue to monitor the situation, along with numerous other human rights issues in South Korea that we follow. At this time our focus in particular is on Policing and the right to Freedom of Assembly, Conscientious Objectors, LGBTI and abolition of the death penalty./end
